The use of negotiated risk agreements (NRAs) is a new topic in a relatively new long-term care setting. This study was designed to inform state policymakers, assisted living providers, and key stakeholders about NRAs and issues related to their use. The study's major objectives were to: (1) Describe states' statutory and regulatory provisions related to NRAs and analyze the policy objectives that NRAs are designed to meet. (2) Analyze and better understand the debate surrounding NRAs. (3) Gain an understanding of how assisted living providers, staff and residents view and use NRAs. [104 PDF pages]
