The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation sponsored an expert meeting on research related to personal assistance services (PAS). This day long meeting was the first of three expert meetings on disability topic areas that DALTCP is considering for inclusion in its research agenda. Issues addressed at the meeting included: (1) PAS need, use and costs, particularly for persons under age 65; (2) quality assurance and related issues of liability, risk and assessment of ability to manage one's own care; (3) paid and unpaid assistance; (4) cash payments to consumers verses public reimbursement of providers; assistive technology; and (5) financing and service delivery system infrastructure. This package includes the background paper which was used for discussion purposes at the meeting and a report of the meeting proceedings. [36 PDF pages]
